The drag of a body moving transversely in a confined stratified fluid

چکیده
The slow motion of a body through a stratified fluid bounded laterally by insulating walls is studied for both large and small Peclet number. The Taylor column and its associated boundary and shear layers are very different from the analogous problem in a rotating fluid. In particular, the large Peclet number problem is non-linear and exhibits mixing of statically unstable fluid layers, and hence the drag is order one; whereas the small Peclet number flow is everywhere stable, and the drag is of the order of the Peelet number.

Analytical analysis of a two-dimensional submerged body moving with a constant velocity in an inviscid incompressible fluid under gravity near a free surface is studied in this paper. This notion is one of the fundamental concepts in applied hydrodynamics. Experimental observations of water waves in large scale or laboratory observation in open channels is indicative of complex phenomenons taki...
متن کاملSolvation Force of Ellipse-Shaped Molecules Moving in One Dimension and Confined between Two Parallel Planar Walls
The model fluids containing hard ellipses (HEs) and Gay-Berne (GB) particles where their center is moving in one dimension and confined between two parallel walls with different interactions are investigated using Monte Carlo simulation, NVT ensemble. The dependency of fluid pressure with respect to the wall distances is studied. The oscillatory behaviors are seen in this quantity against ...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation on the Effect of Tunnel Height on Drag Reduction in a High Speed Trimaran
There are different methods to reduce drag in high speed hulls. One of these methods is a change in the shape of the body by adding longitudinal side tunnels. In this paper it has been attempted to determine the influence of the tunnel height on hydrodynamic characteristics of the hull to achieving an optimum shape for the tunnel. To achieve this purpose, numerical simulation of the problem has...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Fluid Flow Past a Square Cylinder Using a Lattice Boltzmann Method
The method of lattice boltzmann equation(LBE) is a kinetic-based approach for fluid flow computations. In the last decade, minimal kinetic models, and primarily the LBE, have met with significant success in the simulation of complex hydrodynamic phenomena, ranging from slow flows in grossly irregular geometries to fully developed turbulence, to flow with dynamic phase transitions. In the presen...

When the body is running at fully immersed condition in viscous fluid, there are two components of resistance, i.e. frictional resistance and form drag. When it is near the free surface, the additional drag encountered to the body which is wave-making drag. This paper is presents the hydrodynamic performance of high-speed Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) in fully immersed condition. We did 100...
